His life was filled with knowledge, giving, and dedication in the fields of science.
He received his primary education at the orphanage, then joined the Saudi Scientific Institute, and continued his university education at the College of Sharia, all in Makkah Al-Mukarramah. He acquired knowledge at the college from eminent scholars including Sheikh Abdullah Khayyat, Professor Ahmed Ali, and Sheikh Muhammad Metwally Al-Shaarawi, may God have mercy on them.
Alongside his formal studies, he pursued knowledge at the Grand Mosque in Makkah under its distinguished scholars, including the eminent scholar, jurist, and judge Sheikh Hassan Mashaat, may God have mercy on him.
He obtained a diploma in education from the American University in Beirut, then was sent for postgraduate studies, earning a Ph.D. in Comparative Law from the University of London in 1390 AH.
During that time, he also obtained a diploma in English Law and Legal Studies from the City of London College.
He held several positions and responsibilities, serving as a role model in them, and through them gained experiences that added deeper and broader dimensions to his personality.
He began his professional life in 1378 AH as a teacher of religious and Arabic sciences, then was appointed as a teaching assistant at the College of Sharia in 1384 AH. After obtaining his Ph.D., he was appointed as an assistant professor at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at King Abdulaziz University - Makkah branch. He was then promoted to associate professor, then to full professor, in recognition of his distinguished scientific output.
He earned the trust of the leadership - may God preserve it - and was appointed as a member of the Council of Senior Scholars in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1413 AH. He then received the King Abdulaziz Medal of the First Class in 1432 AH, and the King Faisal International Prize in 1434 AH.
He was invited as a visiting professor and researcher at several prestigious international universities, including Harvard Law School and Boston University in the United States in 1396 AH. He was also delegated to Duke University and Harvard Law School.
These promotions and academic advancements of His Excellency - may God have mercy on him - enabled him - by God's grace - to excel in research and authorship, and to participate in studying contemporary issues; where he enriched the Islamic library with abundant scientific output of books, research papers, and peer-reviewed articles.
He possessed a solid scientific capability, combining methodological jurisprudence with research in the fields of finance and economics, law, in addition to his exceptional care for the history of Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
And many more – may Allah have mercy on him – for he spent most of his life in knowledge and work, sincerely and devotedly serving his religion, his country, and his nation, and serving the pure Islamic sciences in jurisprudence, fundamentals, history, heritage, writing, teaching, research, authentication, and establishment. He was a school in his achievements, his time management, and his excellent organization. He was pleasant, dignified, humble, keen on harmony, completely distant from fame, abstaining from all forms of media. He dedicated himself to knowledge and its halls and arenas, despite his fame reaching far and wide, and the rush of students and researchers from around the world to him.
Allah Almighty chose him to be by His side on the 26th of Ramadan in the year 1444 AH, after leaving behind a great legacy and lasting contributions, reminding us of the impact of the righteous predecessors.
Blessed is his noble status, for he is among the heirs of the prophets. He succeeded in goodness and benefit, in teaching, mastery, faith, and excellence. May Allah reward him for what he offered in the service of the Book and the Sunnah. By Allah, guiding one man through you is better than red camels. Congratulations to him for the reward, the exaltation of remembrance, the majesty of status, the righteousness of his deeds. Glory be to the One who chose from His servants callers to goodness and banners of the Sunnah, and bestowed upon them the greatest blessings and favors.
One of the greatest things he left – may Allah have mercy on him – is his rich and comprehensive library, which includes more than twenty thousand books. Al-Medad Foundation for Heritage, Culture, and Arts was privileged to receive support from the endowment of Sheikh Saleh Hamza Sirafi – may Allah preserve and reward him – as a special location was allocated for it in the House of Islamic Arts at Al-Safa Hall in the Museum of the Two Holy Mosques, following a generous initiative from his family in gifting it.
This library, with all its contents of books, manuscripts, periodicals, and artifacts, has been allocated for the establishment of a library bearing the name of Sheikh Abdul Wahhab Abu Sulayman – may Allah have mercy on him – to immortalize his great legacy.
The launch of the library coincides with the release of a special book about him entitled: "A Journey of Giving and a Touch of Loyalty", documented with photos, documents, and the most notable sayings of leading Arab figures and scholars.
Congratulations to him for every honor he received, and congratulations to the homeland for having such sincere men. With sincere prayers that Allah multiplies his reward in the Hereafter, encompasses him with His mercy and forgiveness, raises his rank in the highest paradise of Jannah, blesses his descendants, and rewards all his students and loved ones.
